When Karin and Terry Reynolds of Clarendon decided to organize a family dance for Tsunami relief, they hoped that by focusing on families with young children they would draw a reasonable crowd. The dance at the Oso Hall in Sharbot Lake last Friday was scheduled for 7-9 pm, and by 7:30 the hall was full. Since the band, Synapse, is made up mostly of teachers from Land o Lakes Public School, a large group came from Mountain Grove and Arden, along with families from the Sharbot Lake and Clarendon area.

We thought that events aimed at people with young children would work, said Karin Reynolds, who has two young children herself, and we were thrilled with the response. And to raise over $1200 for Tsunami relief at a free dance, thats even better.

While the dance was going on at the town Hall, students from Sharbot Lake High School were at their own dance, which came at the end of a fundraising campaign initiated by the Students Council that raised $1286 for tsunami relief.

Jane Douglas, the communications director for the Limestone District School Board, is in the early stages of compiling a list of donations by school throughout the board. She reports that Harrowsmith Public School has raised $1,172.35 through the sale of fridge magnets, but said she does not have all the information in from many schools that have raised money as well.
