Building boom centred in the north
by Jeff Green
Building departments from Central and North Frontenac Townships reported large increases in the number and value of building permits taken out in 2005.
In North Frontenac, permits for over $10 million worth of construction were taken out in 2005, compared to $6 million in 2004, while in Central Frontenac values increased to $8 million from $6 million in the previous year.
In both townships, construction permits in 2004 were up from 2003, although not as dramatically as they were in 2005.
The situation is somewhat different in South Frontenac, where permits valued at $22.36 million were issued in 2005, a hefty drop from $26.5 million in 2004. In fact, the value of permits has been decreasing steadily since 2002, when the total value was $28.3 million.
However, the total number of permits issued in South Frontenac Township has been increasing over that period, rising from 507 in 2002 to 588 in 2005.
Combined, the three townships issued construction permits with a value of over $40 million last year.
