Family Literacy Day event in Sharbot Lake
by Megan Hughes
Amid many projects funded by the Frontenac Community Futures Development Corporation, the Family Literacy Day event at The Child Centre on January 26 was a great success. Almost 50 children saw a puppet show hosted by Mother Goose (a.k.a. Megan Hughes) and heard music played by Bob Miller and his talented friend Meghan Balogh. The music featured favourites like “Old MacDonald” and “This Old Man”, while Bob taught the children about the different string instruments that he and Meghan had brought along.
The children, who had a chance to participate in the show by answering questions about the play, enjoyed the puppet show called “The Mixed-Up Fairy Tale”. Although the puppets were quite nervous, Mother Goose asked the children to help calm down the puppets by being an excellent audience, which they were. The children were especially helpful in sorting out which puppets belonged to which story, and singing along with the music. Thanks are due to everyone who helped to make this event a hit. We look forward to next year’s Family Literacy Day event at The Child Centre.
