Feature Article - April 26, 2007Continued vandalism onCataraqui Trail
by Wilma Kenny
A dump of liquid manure, spread reeking along 100 metres of the Cataraqui Trail last week, is just one of a number of acts of vandalism during the past year, according to Rob Gerritsen of the CRCA. Most of the problems, which have included the theft of an ‘in memoriam’ sign and the destruction of a $2,000 gate, have occurred in the area of the Rutledge Road overpass, between Harrowsmith and Sydenham.
The trail, which is largely funded and maintained by local volunteers, is part of the Trans-Canada Trail. Although the chief users are hikers and snowmobilers, the trail also welcomes people on bicycles, skis and horses.
