Parham boy Win BMX Gold at Ontario Summer Games
Thirteen-year-old Brodie Young took the goldmedal in the individual BMX race at the Ontario Summer games on August 14. Young took all three qualifying heats to move on to the fi nal against three other 13-year-old racers. His victory in the bi-annual games came about after hehad won a silver medal in the qualifying meet in Milton, Ontario.
The Ontario Summer Games were based in Ottawa, where Brodie participated in Olympic-style opening ceremonies. For the BMX racing, however, the athletes were bussed to Kingston, and the event took place at Brodie’s home track.
This did not give Brodie much of an advantage, however, because the track
was re-built for the games. In fact, Brodie did not get to ride for the five weeks preceding the games because of the construction on the track.
He now moves on to a big race in Kingston on September 6 and 7, followedby the Ontario ranking race in Milton on September
