It’s curtains for Pine Meadow Nursing Home. All new curtains, that is. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals, The Pine Meadow Classic golf tournament raised enough money, $13,000, to put in all new curtains at Pine Meadow Nursing Home in the coming weeks.

The tournament went off without a hitch last Saturday, with expected rains holding off as the golfers made their way around Hunter’s Creek golf course near Cloyne.

When it came time to award the tournament to two winning teams, emotions ran high, as the tournament trophy has just been re-named the Bill Salmond trophy in honour of the Kaladar-Barrie Deputy Fire Chief who is his life while on a fire call two years ago next month. A large contingent of Salmond family members were on hand for the event, and a delegation of Shriners formed an honour guard as the trophy was brought in to the dining hall at the gold course.

The Shriners came to the event as a gesture of appreciation because a sale of Shriner’s Christmas cakes in Northbrook last December yielded over $1,000 in revenue over two days, well beyond expectations.

The trophy was presented to the two winning captains by grandsons of Bill Salmond, who worked as a greens keeper at the course after his retirement.

The trophy will stay at Hunters Creek in the summers and at Pine Meadow in the wintertime.
