"I want to raise some money for the kids going through cancer treatment at the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre".
That was an idea Bob Tryon had one evening after dinner in May. So it was, that on Saturday, Aug. 1 /09, that the idea became a reality in the form of the :Bob Tryon Horseshoe Cancer Classic" in his backyard in Northbrook.
With the help of family and friends, these dedicated volunteers canvassed local and area merchants for donations toward the event. The response was fantastic, as were the number of "players" that registered to play. A total of 16 teams threw the many "ringers and klunkers" all day, providing those of us on the sideline with some exciting entertainment. A silent auction continued throughout the day on the many items donated by our generous merchants. The fluke of the day was on a draw for a microwave oven, donated by Smitty"s Appliances.....the winner was Bob Tryon.
Winners of A Division: Ted Rayner, Albert Thompson. B Division: Paul Wentworth, Ted Paranuik. C Division: Brian Shier, Bill Tryon
At the end of the day everyone went home, happy to be part of this event and vowing to return next year. With the help of everyone, a total of $1050.00 will be turned over to the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre Paediatric Clinic.
Having gone through cancer treatment himself, Bob really understood what these kids were going through, and wanted to do something to help.
We are just amazed and so thankful for the support we received from our business donations and to the people who came and supported this event. We hope to see you next year, and a special Thank You to one and all.
