Denbigh hosts U of O students

Denbigh played host to 24 fourth-year students from the University of Ottawa last Thursday afternoon. The crew was led by Associate Professor of Geography Robert McLeman, and TA Renate Sander-Regier…and they let me tag along too.

The theme of the course is sustainable rural development, and with only a few students of the group coming from a rural area, they were interested in finding out the benefits and challenges of living in this area.

After enjoying pizza at 41 Stop we took a walking tour around the village, seeing the sites and noting where local landmarks once stood. Our walk was cut a little short on account of rain. Amp Snider took us to the next stop, the sawmill at Vennachar Junction, where we were treated to a demonstration of how things work, given by Jonathan Kellar. Mr. Snider passed on much invaluable information about the industry/business and a few life lessons too.
