Dear Jeff,
I am glad to see articles about the history of our area as our history is one of our strengths. So much of our history has been lost already. So, in reference to the article on the “Murder”, I feel obliged to correct at least one inaccuracy. The Sharbot Lake Country was not the site of Mrs. Garrett’s boarding house. Her building was on Medical Centre Road as one of many buildings of the original village on either side of the railroad tracks.
I always read your thoughtful, well written editorials. However, the editorial about changing not only the spelling of Mathew Street but honouring another Matthew upset me. It is not that I wish to ignore the accomplishments of Matthew Fraser but there is a better, less controversial way of acknowledging him. How about a plaque in the park like the one for Simon Whitfield? There is enough divisiveness over Mathew Street now. We do not need another issue to divide us.
Keep up the good work,
Ann Walsh
