In your article “Education Night about Palestine” on page 5 of the December 21/2023 edition, there is an info graphic called “It didn’t start on October 7th”. I can only assume this was provided to you from the Kingston Islamic Centre and was used by you to “fill space” on the page. It says “Hamas, a Palestinian paramilitary organization initiated an attack on Israel….”

Jemma, please do your homework!

Hamas is much more than a paramilitary organization. The Liberal Party leads Canada and controls our federal political, administrative and security affairs. Hamas is the governing political party of Gaza. Hamas controls all political, administrative and security affairs of Gaza. As such, their attack on October 7th constitutes a formal attack on Israel by a foreign country.

Also, several countries and international organizations, including the United Stares, Canada, the European Union, Israel and others - officially designate Hamas a terrorist organization.

Without this commentary your article portrays half truths, is incredibly misleading and damaging to our community’s interpretation of events.

When we see demonstrations supporting Gaza & Palestinians - I wish reporters would have the strength to ask if they support Hamas. If they do, they are publicly supporting an organization that our government defines as a terrorists.
