The recent and continuing belligerence we face from the US and to a somewhat lesser extent, China's government has caused and will continue to cause a loss in the value of our dollar.
That makes it more expensive for you to run our Township in the way you want and in the way the electorate expects.
From a tax-payer's perspective it devalues the taxes paid. I believe this is an opportunity to simultaneously make financial, social and strong political statements.
This is the time to introduce a property-tax surcharge on properties owned by individuals and companies from countries that have placed and are placing punitive tariffs on Canadians.
The amount could be equivalent to the tariff and be seen as reasonable in the face of things.
