After many years drumming with “Sisters of the Drum” on Canada Day at Sharbot Lake beach, it saddened me the Indigenous people were left out during the opening ceremonies. In the past songs and stories were shared. It is ironic that Sharbot Lake was named after two Indigenous Elders, Francis and Mary Sharbot, and yet they were not recognized. How are we to walk the path of Reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and Sisters with this oversight?
It was a great celebration for Canada Day at the beach and hundreds attended to enjoy the beauty there. I had a good time listening to the music and singing with my son, Marc on stage. It was all well organized and enjoyable. And of course the fire works were spectacular.
